Q2, Week 4 Vocabulary Definitions & Cloze

Context- The parts of a written or spoken statement that precede or follow a specific word or passage, usually influencing it's meaning or effect.

Evaluate- To determine or set the value or amount of; appraise; to evaluate property.

Equate- To regard, treat, or represent as equivalent.

Cloning became a hot topic when Dolly the Sheep was cloned from an identical sheep in 1997. Cloning basically 1) equate to creating a genetic twin. There is no evidence that human cloning has occurred yet, but it is believed that scientists have the ability to do so. Most countries have 2) evaluated the pros and cons of human cloning and limited or outlawed it. If you look at this in a different 3) context , there are human clones among us right now. They are identical twins, created naturally, not in a lab.

Supporters of human cloning say that it could help couples who are struggling with conceiving a baby. More importantly, many people say that human cloning could be used to save lives by cloning a diseased liver or heart or to replace a body part like an arm. In this 4) context, human cloning may not be such a bad thing.

Opponents of human cloning say that people are “playing God” and they
5) equate that with going against many people’s religious beliefs. Some people fear that scientists could create “superhumans” that would be bred as super-soldiers or super-athletes which would make it impossible for non-cloned humans to compete with them.

Q2, Week 3 - T-Chart & Paragraph

Focus Question: Do violent video games contribute to youth violence?
Personally i don't think that violent video games contribute youth violence. There's a huge percent of kids that like to play violent video games for entertain them and play with their friends online. The video game community interprets only video games to entertain the youth or adults. One reason is because juveniles who committ felonies committ them maybe because they have problems at their house or in their life. Second reason is because youth who committ crimes probably don't even play violent video games, they are mostly all out in the streets involved with gangs Third reason is most video games have what age you have to be to play the game and only people 18 and older can buy it.
